Being blessed...lets dive into that for just a second.
Does it mean having the best house perfectly decorated?
Does it mean having everything we want or need?
Does it even mean having everything going right for you?
No, no and well no.
Let me tell you right now in my life I am a very blessed woman.
Is my house perfectly decorated? No. LOL heck ... my house still needs repairs that we need to save up for!!
Do I have everything I want or need? No I don't have everything I want...I have the most important things that I need that the bible talks about faith, hope and love. I have food and a roof over my head, and I have people that love me and people that I love dearly in my life.
Is everything going right in my life? LOL oh heavens no. As I write this on my lunch break that I worked through, there are 2 people out today that I'm helping fill gaps for, there are worries I have in my mind that I'm trying not to think about on top of 1000 other things I need to get done that have deadlines.
But I tell you what I am a very blessed woman. I see a lot of people this time of year stressing over what to get so and so, how will we ever afford this, so and so said this and hurt my feelings, we were that family that wasn't invited to that thing, death floating about like Christmas tinsel on a tree and of course the list goes on of things I see.
But I tell you again I am blessed when I read the word of God and measure my life up to His standards and not my own and certainly not the worlds either.
1 Peter 3:14 tells us
"But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled."
And then in Psalms 1"1-6 tells us,
"Blessed is the man[a]
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
I have a family I love and they love me back. I have wonderful friends who support me and have my back no matter the season I am in. I have parents who planted seeds of truth from the beginning of my existence. I have wonderful bosses and co-workers who have been a great blessing. And I have a God who loved me so much that He became flesh and blood under a starry night sky and grew up to die for me at the age of 33.
So no my dear sweet friend you do not need to fill your life with things, money, the next best thing to have a blessed life.
But I will tell you that when God blesses you, that you are blessed to be a blessing.
I challenge you to look at all that you have been blessed with and see how you can share it this Christmas season and continue to do so afterwards.
Are you blessed with awesome hospitality? Who might God want you to have over for a nice cup of tea and your amazing spice cake.
Are you financially blessed? How might you be a blessing to others?
Is your family blessed to know the word of God? Perhaps invite a family over for dinner for game night to show God's love in a fun way.
You're blessed in some way to be a blessing. Share it.
I leave you with this last scripture: Matthew 5:16
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Have a very Merry Christmas season.
